Pumpkin Cup Stamps Instructions:
Prep: you can get out some orange paint (you could get out a little green paint for the stems or just a green marker to color on the stems), a paper plate for the paint, some white paper, and protect your table with a placemat or tablecloth.
Step 1. Pour out a little orange paint on a plate.
Step 2. Grab a cup and stamp it onto your paper.
Step 3: Once you stamped your pumpkins onto your paper, you can add more details.
Step 4: You could add a green stem with crayons or markers.
For more crafty fun, you could:
Add glitter (we like to use glitter glue) to add some fun hair dos on the pumpkins
Add faces with different feeling
Add more colors and talk about different colored pumpkins
Step 5: Let it dry!
Step 6: You could use it as a keepsake or a decoration. You could frame it or put it in a scrapbook for memories.
Tips for Ages/Different Levels so it’s family friendly:
Preschoolers: H and M loved stamping the pumpkins all over their paper. They liked painting in the pumpkin to make it all orange. They liked adding little faces and adding the green stem. You could have them name their pumpkins and talk about if they are a pumpkin family or talk about how they are feeling. You could write how each pumpkin is feeling under the pumpkin and they could trace the words, like sad, mad, happy or add numbers under each pumpkin and count them.
Simplify: Toddler J really enjoyed just grabbing the cups. It may help to let him play with the cups before there is paint on them. Then, introduce the paint. Show him how you stamp the paint and then he or she may see you do the Pumpkin Cup Stamps and want to join in. Work on his or her language skills, “First pick up them cup, then dip in orange paint.” J was done after a couple stamps and that is okay, it is all about the process more than the completed art project for now. J also liked dipping different materials, like his truck, into the orange paint (do what you’re comfortable with).
More Complex: You could build Comprehension Skills. They could create a story about their pumpkins. They could envision a story just using one main picture or you could give them 5-10 pieces of white paper and they could paint their main character with the pumpkin cup stamp (depending on how much time you have). They could add in another pumpkin and have one of silly hair or a different color of hair to tell a story. You could have them draw, color, write, or finger paint in more details onto their pages.
Way to go mom! Check out all of the skills you’re kids are practicing!
