Did you know when you love yourself, you are glorifying God? I do not have a perfect past. At first, I wouldn’t believe God’s love for me because of the difficulties I encountered in my childhood. Then, as an adult, I kept waiting until I had it all together, to accept His love. Before I became a mom and started studying His truth and His words, I thought my baggage disqualified me from His love. How wrong was I?
Sometimes, the world can make us feel bad about loving ourselves unless we have it all together. On the other hand, the world can make us think it is all about us. If we depend on worldly standards or perfect circumstances, it can be like a roller coaster ride of loving yourself in one moment and not in another.
I know I still have a lot to learn and more growing to do as I climb upstairs in life to God’s eternal promises. Still, we can find comfort that if we have God in us, we will not fall (Psalm 46:5). We need to put him first in our hearts, and it is then that we will experience truly loving ourselves.
He delights in us when we are loving ourselves because we are loving his creation! It’s so wonderful to remember, He is our one true king AND he is the one who designed us, sprinkling together our gifts, talents, and skills. Yes, He knew we would have struggles in the world, but that is why He designed us to lean on Him, not ourselves. So, self-care is great but the best kind of self love will be found in His word, and His love for you.
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14
As we enter the holiday seasons, let us keep our eyes on Jesus. Let us not only connect our traditions to His love and his truth, but let us remember how much He loves us no matter what our struggles are. We can come to Him as we are and find his consistent everlasting love. This alone is a wonderful reason to be thankful this season.
The more I learn about God’s goodness and love for us, the more my heart is armored with His truth, love, and life! It brings so much more joy than any worldly expectation. If we are filling our hearts with thanks to God, we will be filled with so much love for ourselves and for others.
A Prayer to Love Yourself Printable!
Jesus is Reaching out to you, let us pray for courage and grace to reach back to Him!
Dear Lord,
We praise you in all of your glory, beauty, and great love. Thank you for loving us wherever we are in life. Thank you for creating us with great love and uniqueness. Give us the armor to shake free of the enemy’s lies that we are not good enough. Reveal to us, who we are in your eyes Lord. Help our hearts to be open and courageous in hearing your Holy Spirit speak to us. Thank you that we can come to you as we are and start loving ourselves, today not tomorrow!! Help us Lord, to not wait until our circumstances are perfect or good enough according to the world’s standards. Let us open our hearts to Christ’s love now, so we can love ourselves today. Armor us in your righteousness so we keep our eyes on Jesus and come closer to being who you made us to be…and let us start shining so much more love and joy around us in your glory!
In Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN
