Honestly, holidays used to make me a little nervous. I am a person who loves hosting but struggles with cooking perfectly and tiny details, and that’s okay because I know I am still loved. It’s all about perspective though. When I remember I am wonderfully made by God, I can see all that I am blessed with even if I struggle.
Psalm 139: 14 ” I will praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”
Usually, I make a mistake like spilling or burning the potatoes because I am trying something new or super focused on being there for my kids. I still love it though and will continue to try! We are hosting this year and now I see how blessed I am that God gave me a husband who enjoys cooking and a mother-in-law who enjoys decor. With all of our family put together, it shows me how God makes each of us uniquely so we lean on Him and each other to enjoy our lives, instead of thinking we are the only ones in control. If I only focused on my mistakes or inadequacies, I’d lose sight of my precious loved ones.
I am thankful for being surrounded by my children. I’ll probably sit with my kids a lot more than the adults because they just bring me so much love! Being a mom has brought me a glimpse of the Heavenly eternal love that waits for us!
A Prayer to Keep a Thankful Heart for an Imperfect Mom
Lord,
We praise you in your almighty glory and Heavenly perfection. We thank you for always loving us. We thank you for creating us in uniquely wonderful ways before we even knew. We thank you that we can lean on you, especially when we struggle in our imperfections. We ask you to keep our hearts focused on you and who you created us to be, even in the busy seasons of life when it feels like there is so much expected of us in this world. We are so thankful for all of the love you place around us in our children. We ask you to reveal your blessings when our hearts lose sight of you. Thank you for always holding onto us, even when we may start losing our grip. For we are forever in line with your desires for our hearts. We are on our way to a greater glory and love in Heaven than we can even fathom. For the glimpses of this love you give us through our children and family, we are so appreciative. Thank you for your big plans and great promises for each and every one of us. Thank you that you loved us before we knew you and gave us your son. You are the greatest King of our hearts!
In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen
Let’s keep our eyes on the big picture, the love of the holidays more than the details of how much seasoning to add to a turkey.
